I’m all for it. I agree that it would be best to start imperfectly ASAP and make changes as needed. Let me know if I need to write a letter or get on a city council call or whatever. Thanks for this.

Thanks Lynn!

If you could, I think reaching out to Durham's Recovery and Renewal Task
Force would be great: https://durhamnc.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2385

Nicole Thompson of Downtown Durham, Inc would specifically be an important
voice in getting this done: @downtowndurham on twitter and:

DOWNTOWN DURHAM, INC.
115 MARKET ST.
SUITE 213
DURHAM, NC 27701
919-682-2800
INFO [at] DOWNTOWNDURHAM.COM

Thanks for the help!

I absolutely agree.  I had heard of the street closings for walking only on weekends, etc. and thought something like this would be great for restaurants, too.  They need S P A C E right now, so that they can actually make some money and get back on their feet.  Will follow up with the contacts you provided in your reply to the previous msg.

Thanks Gerry.

I also realized that my forum software hid the email address for DDI, so I just corrected that - you will just need to replace [at] with @

Darn,  that link took me to the dreaded Durham Web Site!  I have no idea how to post anything on that monster.  Will try another way.

I'm all for densification, improved pedestrian (and bike) street-level experience, and reducing car use, so I'm 100% in favor!

a long time ago for some reason I hated this type of housing, and great forums and websites like this one have turned me into a proponent.  It is absolutely stupid and wasteful to micromanage people's housing properties to reduce housing.... it seems draconian that the city can tell you what you can do with your property.  Great post as always.
