425 S Roxboro Development

Durham_Transplant
Driving home from work today it appeared they were doing some site prep work at 425 S Roxboro where Lennar Multifamily is building a new apartment development with 350+ units. Anyone seen any news or renderings?

Yes. They're calling it the Lawson with expected date of 2021. https://lawsondurham.com/

We’re for apartments that go against the grain. ... We’re for making something cool in a sea of somethings bland. For embracing the fringe, pushing the boundaries, and creating community.

lol ugh. What a generic, cluttered eyesore of a superblock. Will match Bullhouse nicely.

Lol, no argument here. It's better than the current situation, but also perfectly bland.

That is all street level retail though right? If so that is a huge improvement there

Looks like they are finally getting ready to move forward with this project after a year (?) of inactivity. Some heavy equipment was out on the site today.

I hope they're starting from scratch. This building is godawful. Up there for worst in the city... what an absolute waste to put such an eyesore at the entry to downtown!

Okay seems like a new developer is involved here now. Apparently Camden out of Houston bought the property from Lennar last year and is now moving forward with the project. The TBJ article used what looks to be essentially the same photo posted above but I’m not sure if that’s an accurate representation of the project or not. The article said there will be two phases with one large, taller building and one small, shorter building with 60 units so we will have to see what the layout looks like as it takes shape.
